Almost Everyone Boasts Having a Hidden Treasure Trove of Jewelery
Everyone has a little hidden treasure chest of jewelery somewhere that should be taken out and dusted off. You might be surprised at how valuable something is that has been stuck in the back of a drawer for eons.
Perhaps one of the more impressive collections of jewelery of all time is the collection of the late Elizabeth Taylor collected over the years, and which Christies put on auction last year.
On the first night of the Christie's Auction the jewelery of Elizabeth Taylor sold for a whopping $ 115.9 million, which is without a question of a doubt a record for any collection of jewelery ever sold at an auction. The money that was raised at the auction went directly to the Elizabeth Taylor Foundation.
Of special note was the La Peregrina natural pearl, cultured pearl, diamond and ruby necklace which was sold for $11.8 million. The La Peregrina broke all world records as this was without a question one of the priciest pearl pieces of jewelery ever sold at an auction.
The diamond and emerald pieces were popular and sold well at the auction, and the gifts given to Elizabeth Taylor by Michael Jackson also sold above the estimated price.
Hundreds of interested parties attended the Elizabeth Taylor jewelery collection auction, and amongst the attendees were many famous and well-known names.
Naturally most ordinary individuals are not in the same league as Elizabeth Taylor, but many of us have a fine piece or two of jewelery stashed away, or a wonderful piece that we wear regularly, that has been given to us as gifts, or collected over the years.
Usually the first really valuable and wonderful item of jewelery we receive is our diamond engagement ring, but more often than not when a young man is courting he is so enamoured and blinded by the stars in his eyes, that long before the engagement ring stage the lucky young lady has accumulated quite a collection of fine jewelery pieces.
Jewelery is a lasting emblem of the betrothed's love, but there need not be an excuse to give someone you love and adore a stunning piece of jewelery.
